Fauxtografs

My predilection is to use photos to point to some thing I found interesting — to show it to you if you can’t be there. So my tendency is to play it natural. During years of news work, I became more entrenched on “things are what they are,” no manipulation. I have for more than 40 years cultivated and guarded my photo as my word. It is what you see, presented (I hope) in an attractive and fresh perspective, but not altered in its truth. (I’ve allowed myself special dispensation on April Fool’s Day.)

BUT, I’m retired and trying to open myself up to new things. I see photos “enhanced” all the time. I have no problems with photo illustrations or art photography - telling a created story as in fiction writing. So, to dabble in this creative puddle WHILE protecting my old principles, I’m introducing the “Fauxtograf”.

Fauxtograf is the label I will put on all my tricked up shots. It means “This is not the way this looked in the real world.” Photograph still means the facts have not been changed.

Here are a trio of Fauxtografs that came from what I considered a single botched exposure. All three use the same base image.
