Stonewall Masonic Lodge 296 in Robersonville has a handsome old building. Built in 1871, it is the oldest building in this small Martin County town. UNC Press’s Guide to Historic Architecture of Eastern NC, says it is “a simplified Greek Revival style frame building with a belltower atop the hip roof.” Besides its simple dignity, I am struck by its old sign and the square and compasses atop the belltower.
