The white pelican is regular, but rare visitor to the Pamlico Sound area. They are really huge birds, weighing in at more than 15 pounds, twice as heavy as the more common brown pelican, and with a wingspan nearly three feet wider than the bald eagle. These guys were in the impoundment near the foot of the Hobucken Bridge. I took these March 16, 2023.
