I was going to practice drone flying the other day. As I stopped the car and was getting unpacked, I noticed a low flying red-tailed hawk headed toward me. I immediately decided not to fly drone (you just DO NOT fly drones around birds) and grabbed the telephoto in hopes of getting a few pictures of him (see Birds of Prey Week 6). He was not far past me when I heard a hawk cry. It was not him. There was a red-shouldered hawk approaching from the opposite direction. They were clearly working out the open field territory dominance there. I expect they will be taking turns as they have for the last few years. I wish these were sharper, but the action takes place 500-900 meters away and I had to work hand-held.
